Sports for persons with disabilities are by no means “second-class” sports. Para athletes also undergo intensive daily training to compete at the highest level. Many Hong Kong para athletes have brought glory to Hong Kong in international competitions, demonstrating extraordinary perseverance and determination.

Enjoying sports is not limited to professional athletes. Sports benefit both physical and mental health, and persons with disabilities can enjoy health and happiness through sports just like everyone else.
To accommodate different needs, some sports have modified rules and gameplay, allowing everyone to participate equally regardless of physical limitations.
The basic rules are similar to regular basketball, except wheelchair basketball players must dribble the ball once after pushing the wheelchair twice. During competitions, touching the ground with the feet or leaving the wheelchair seat is considered a foul.
Except for the goalkeeper, all players are visually impaired. Each team has a guide positioned behind the opponent’s goal who verbally assists the attacking players. Coaches and goalkeepers also provide verbal guidance from midfield and the defensive area. Players rely on the sound made by the ball to locate it during the match.
